Some students have extensive academic experiences in their native country with a strong development of fluency in their native language, while some have only interrupted educational experiences for a number of reasons. In addition to this, some students learn English as a new language while others learn it as a second language at the same time they are learning other languages that are spoken at home. Therefore, teaching subject area content to ESOL students in a manner that allows the students to learn the content while learning the English language at the same time can be an effective approach.
